In the first half of 2023, the national grid company Swissgrid achieved a profit of 51.6 million Swiss francs. The balance sheet of the company increased to 4.2 billion Swiss francs. In the first half of 2022, Swissgrid reported a profit of 47.8 million Swiss francs, with a balance sheet total of 3.8 billion Swiss francs. The procurement expenditure of 639.7 million Swiss francs has more than doubled compared to the previous year, Swissgrid announced on Monday. This is due to the higher costs of regulation provision and the higher prices for the procurement of the energy required to compensate for the power losses. Swissgrid reported that operating expenses increased to 139.5 million Swiss francs compared to the previous year. The higher costs for purchased external and material services, for network maintenance and for other services in the network area are the reason for this. In order to ensure the network-side supply security of Switzerland, the company invested 128.5 million Swiss francs in the past half year. The modernization of the transmission network lays the foundation for a sustainable energy future, it was further stated. Among other things, the work on the voltage increase on the line between Bassecourt JU and Mühleberg BE has been pushed forward. The adjustment is important for the power supply of the Central Plateau.
