Discover Five New Swiss Restaurants Awarded Two Michelin Stars

This year, the renowned gastronomy guide Michelin has awarded 138 restaurants in Switzerland with one to three stars. Five new establishments have been promoted to the two-star league. Gwendal Poullennec, Director of the international Michelin Guide, stated that the number of restaurants with Michelin stars remains at a consistently high level during the presentation of this year's Swiss edition of the gastronomy guide in Lausanne. Once again, Swiss top gastronomy demonstrates its ability to adapt in a complex economic environment. In Switzerland, four restaurants have been awarded the highest rating of three stars from Michelin: Memories in Bad Ragaz SG, led by Chef Sven Wassmer, Hôtel de Ville in Crissier VD, run by Franck Giovannini, Cheval Blanc by Peter Knogel in Basel, and Schloss Schauenstein by Andreas Caminada and Marcel Skibba in Fürstenau GR. These four restaurants are part of an exclusive group of establishments that have been awarded the highest rating of three stars from Michelin. Five new addresses are now shining with two stars, increasing the number of restaurants in this category to 26. Three of the newcomers are located in Western Switzerland: La Table du Lausanne Palace, La Table du Valrose in Rougemont VD, and Atelier Robuchon in Geneva. In the German-speaking part of Switzerland, the Japanese Restaurant at the Chedi Hotel in Andermatt UR is "one of the most remarkable newcomers" to the two-star league, according to the editors. Dominik Sato and Fabio Toffolon took over the restaurant last spring. The twins also received the award as young talents. Newly awarded with two stars in the German-speaking part of Switzerland was also the kitchen of Silvio Germann at Mammertsberg in Freidorf TG. This year, 19 new restaurants managed to earn one of the coveted Michelin stars for the first time. This increases the number of worthwhile destinations for gourmets in this category to 108. The Michelin testers have particularly noticed the "growing self-confidence of Swiss chefs and producers towards regional products" during their visits this year. As a result, 33 establishments - including nine new ones - have been awarded a green star for their commitment to sustainable development. Fifteen new restaurants have been awarded a "Bib Gourmand" for their good value for money, bringing the total number of restaurants with the award to 125. The 2023 edition of the Michelin Guide Switzerland is available for free on the Michelin Guide website and mobile app. The Michelin Guide has been rating restaurants since the early 1900s. This tradition continues today, with one star representing a "refined cuisine worth a stop", two stars for an "exceptional cuisine worth a detour", and three stars for an "exceptional cuisine worth a special journey".
