In 2022, a record amount of 2.5 billion Swiss francs was donated in Switzerland, largely due to donations to Ukraine. This marks the third consecutive year that more than 2 billion francs have been donated, according to the donation report from Swissfundraising and the Zewo Foundation. Donations for international aid abroad increased by 30%, while donations for social and health care in Switzerland remained stagnant. Digital donations, especially via the Twint payment app, were popular, with the transaction volume increasing fivefold since 2019. Private households accounted for 7 out of 10 francs donated in German-speaking Switzerland and 6 out of 10 francs in the French-speaking part. Of the 2.5 billion francs donated in total, 1.51 billion went to charities with the Zewo seal of approval. 35 of the 50 largest donation-collecting charities in 2022 had the Zewo seal. The Zewo Foundation is the Swiss certification body for non-profit, donation-collecting organisations, and Swissfundraising is the professional organisation of fundraisers in Switzerland.
