Retour au fil d'actualité

Evi Allemann, a 45-year-old Bernese politician, has announced her candidacy for the Swiss Federal Council. She is the first woman to do so, and is vying for the seat left vacant by Alain Berset. Allemann has a long political career, having been elected to the Bernese Cantonal Council at 19, and serving as a National Councillor for 15 years. She was known for her work in transport and security policy, and was the president of the Swiss Transport Club. She left the National Council in 2018 due to party-imposed term limits, and moved to the Bernese Cantonal Government. She is the mother of two school-aged children, and a fan of the Bernese Young Boys. Allemann is the sixth candidate for the Federal Council seat, and is up against five men. Despite her long political career, observers give her slim chances of success due to the presence of another Bernese in the Federal Council, and the better connections of the other candidates.
