On Monday evening, a memorial service was held at the synagogue of the Jewish community of Bern in honour of the victims of the Palestinian Hamas terrorist attacks on Israel. The Swiss Federal Council was represented by Albert Rösti. The Swiss Israelite Community Federation (SIG) condemned the "unprecedented and terrible" attacks, which targeted innocent civilians, including men, women, children and the elderly. Rösti expressed the deep sympathy and solidarity of the Swiss government, and strongly condemned the "barbaric terrorist attacks". He also acknowledged Israel's legitimate right to national defence and security, and called for the immediate release of all hostages held by Hamas.

Among the victims of the Hamas attacks was a Swiss-Israeli dual citizen, and Swiss airlines flew 880 people back to Zurich in four evacuation flights. On October 7th, Hamas fighters had attacked several Israeli villages and kibbutzim, killing innocent people indiscriminately. According to Israeli sources, more than 1400 people have died so far. In response, the Israeli air force bombed targets in the densely populated Gaza Strip, resulting in the death of 2750 Palestinians, according to Palestinian sources. Hamas fighters also kidnapped nearly 200 people from the Jewish civilian population, who are now being held hostage in the Gaza Strip.
