The 2023 Swiss National Council elections are unlikely to be a 'climate election' as they were in 2019. According to preliminary results and projections, the Swiss People's Party (SVP) is the clear winner, with the Green Party (Grünen) suffering seat losses in several cantons. In Bern and Zurich, the Greens are projected to lose two seats each, with the SVP, SP, GLP, and FDP each gaining one seat in Zurich. In St. Gallen, the SVP is projected to gain a seat at the expense of the GLP. In Aargau, the SVP is projected to regain the seventh seat it lost in 2019. In Graubünden, the SVP is projected to gain a seat at the expense of the SP. In Luzern, the SVP is projected to gain a seat at the expense of the GLP. In Geneva, the protest party MCG is projected to gain two seats, while the SP is projected to gain one. In Thurgau, the FDP is projected to gain a seat at the expense of the Greens. In Solothurn, the Greens are projected to lose their only seat, with the Mitte party gaining it. In Baselbiet, the Greens are projected to lose 8.1 percentage points, but no seat shifts are expected. In Basel-Stadt, the SP is projected to lose one of its two seats. In Zug, Mitte president Gerhard Pfister, SVP faction leader Thomas Aeschi, and Manuela Weichelt (Alternative - the Greens) are all projected to retain their seats. In Glarus, the SVP's Markus Schnyder is projected to gain the seat of retiring Mitte National Council member Martin Landolt. In Uri, Mitte National Council member Simon Stadler is projected to be re-elected. In Appenzell Ausserrhoden and Obwalden, the SVP is projected to retain its seats. In Innerrhoden, Mitte National Council member Thomas Rechsteiner is projected to be re-elected. In Nidwalden, however, the SVP is projected to lose a seat, with Mitte politician Regina Durrer-Knobel taking its place. She is the first Nidwalden National Council member in history.
