“New Zurich Times”: Liberalism is the Loser.

The New Zurich Times has declared that these are difficult times for liberalism, as people are calling for more state intervention rather than self-responsibility in times of uncertainty. The FDP has managed to maintain its voter share, but the competition from the centre and the dominance of the SVP has hit the party hard. The gains of the SVP and the losses of the Greens have shifted the political majority in the National Council further to the right. However, this does not necessarily mean more conservative politics. Liberalism is weakened and self-responsibility is less valued than ever. People are looking for parties that promise security, even if it is false. In summary, the New Zurich Times believes that liberalism is facing a difficult time as people are looking for more state intervention and security in times of uncertainty, rather than self-responsibility. The FDP has been hit hard by the competition from the centre and the dominance of the SVP, and the political majority in the National Council has shifted further to the right.
