Switzerland and France have agreed to strengthen their efforts against illegal immigration. On Friday, Swiss Federal Councillor Elisabeth Baume-Schneider and French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin signed an action plan on migration in Thônex GE. The plan aims to increase cooperation between the two countries to better manage migration flows and combat illegal immigration.
Switzerland and France are targeting smugglers and individuals who do not have a claim to asylum. The two countries are already working together in the border region, but in light of the increasing secondary migration, i.e. travel from one Schengen state to another, they are looking to do more.
Various measures are planned to combat human trafficking, starting with police operations in the border area. Mixed patrols are to be deployed in cross-border rail traffic. Communication is also to be strengthened with the appointment of liaison officers.
