Bernese Green politician Bernhard Pulver announced on Tuesday that a Federal Council candidacy on his part was not up for discussion this fall. Previously, the Green Bernese Councillor Christine Häsler had also canceled.
It does not mean, however, that he rules out a candidacy for the future, Bernhard Pulver told the Keystone-SDA news agency when asked. This fall, he said, his goal was to win a seat on the Council of States for the Green Party in Bern, not to run for the Federal Council. The 58-year-old withdrew from the race for the Council of States after the first round of voting.
Puvler was a member of the government of the Canton of Berne for twelve years until 2018. He is currently Chairman of the Board of Directors of the archipelago, among other activities.
Candidacy is "not an issue" for Häsler
Also on Tuesday, Christine Häsler said on request that a candidacy for the Federal Council is not an issue for her. She wants to continue to concentrate on her task as education and culture director of the canton of Bern.
Häsler has been a member of the government council in the canton of Bern since 2018. Between 2015 and 2018, the 60-year-old was a member of the National Council for the Green Party. Before that, she was a member of the Bernese Grand Council and chaired the parliamentary group for several years.
The Greens had decided on Saturday to run for a seat in the Federal Council. They want to submit a candidacy that is directed against one of the two FDP seats. On Tuesday, Fribourg National Councilor Gerhard Andrey (Greens) was the first to announce his candidacy.
