An ATM was blown up at Ziegelbrücke railroad station shortly before two o'clock on Monday morning. According to the police, the perpetrators fled with an unknown amount of cash. The station building was damaged to the tune of several 100,000 francs.

The vending machine was ripped out of the building by the force of the detonation of the explosives, the St. Gallen cantonal police reported on Monday morning. According to reports, two perpetrators then fled the scene on e-scooters.

The amount of money stolen is currently uncertain, said Hanspeter Krüsi, spokesman for the St. Gallen cantonal police, when asked by the Keystone-SDA news agency. Any recordings from surveillance cameras also still need to be evaluated.

The investigation into the explosives offense is being conducted by the Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland with the support of the St. Gallen cantonal police and the federal police. The Zurich Forensic Institute has also been called in, the press release added.
