Canoeist capsizes in storm on Lake Lucerne and dies

A canoeist capsized on Lake Lucerne near Vitznau LU on Sunday afternoon. He died in hospital on Monday morning, according to Lucerne police.
According to the communiqué, gusts of 60 to 80 kilometers per hour were sweeping across Lake Lucerne and the storm warning lights were switched on when the accident occurred. The 75-year-old, who was about 200 to 300 meters from the shore in his canoe, got into distress and capsized.
The casualty was rescued by private individuals. The rescue service and police resuscitated him, according to the press release. The man was then flown to hospital by a rescue helicopter. He died there early on Monday morning.
