Following the renewed hacker attack on Federal Administration data, the Federal Data Protection Commissioner has initiated a preliminary investigation. The attacked software provider Concevis, which works for the Confederation, had already filed a criminal complaint with the public prosecutor's office in Basel-Stadt.
The Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC) initiated a preliminary investigation on Monday into indications of possible breaches of data protection regulations, it was reported on Wednesday in response to an inquiry from the Keystone-SDA news agency.
The FDPIC has received initial indications of a possible breach of data protection regulations. It is now examining whether the conditions for a formal investigation are met.
The National Cyber Security Center (NCSC) announced the data theft on Tuesday. According to current knowledge, it concerns older operational data held by external federal service providers. It is currently considered unlikely that federal systems themselves have been hacked. There are no indications of this.
Immediately beforehand, the software provider Concevis announced that the company had fallen victim to a so-called ransomware attack on November 4 and 5. In such attacks, hackers first steal data and encrypt it. They then demand a ransom from the affected companies. However, Concevis rejected this.
