Free regional press subscription for young people in Fribourg

The canton of Fribourg wants to support the regional press. To this end, all 18-year-olds in the canton are to receive a free subscription to a regional medium. The measure is planned for a period of five years.
With this draft law, the State Council is implementing a motion by the cantonal parliament, which called for an annual subscription to a newspaper for all young citizens.
Around 3700 people could benefit from the digital subscription offer over the next few years, the State Council wrote in a press release on Friday. Prerequisite: they must apply for such a subscription.
The aim of the measure is to sensitize young adults to regional and cantonal issues and at the same time support the titles of the regional press. The latter are in a difficult economic situation, emphasizes the State Council.
