Federal Councillor Rösti praises National President Nussbaumer in Liestal BL

Federal Councillor Albert Rösti (SVP) gave a speech in Liestal BL on Wednesday for the new President of the National Council of Basel-Landschaft, Eric Nussbaumer (SP). The official ceremony took place in the town church in Liestal.
Rösti praised Nussbaumer's political career, which he had started with a lot of "hard work". The Federal Councillor also mentioned the times when he used to duel with Nussbaumer on energy policy, for example on the TV show Arena.
"I'll tell you now what Rösti actually wanted to say" - he still remembers this sentence from Nussbaumer well. It sounded so terrible that he doubted himself, said Rösti with humor. Now he wanted to urge the Basel councillor to vote in favour of the Rhine tunnel.
Milestone for Baselland
"Crossing borders, broadening horizons - this is my motto for the year," said Nussbaumer at the ceremony in the church. He emphasized the importance of cross-border cooperation.
This is the fifth time that the Basel region has held the national presidency. "The election not only marks a milestone in his career, but also for the canton of Basel-Landschaft," said the President of the Basel-Landschaft cantonal government, Monica Gschwind (FDP).
Nusbaumer celebrates the presidency of the National Council together with Eva Herzog (SP), the newly elected President of the Council of States in Basel. Before the ceremony in the church, Nussbaumer and Herzog were accompanied in a procession by the Liestal town band.
