The National Council began discussing the budget for the coming year on Thursday morning. At the beginning of the debate, SVP parliamentary group spokesman Lars Guggisberg accused the other parties of pursuing an "unrestrained and irresponsible" spending policy.

"In terms of financial policy, we are in a constant downpour," said the Bernese National Councillor. The outlook is bleak.

In terms of social welfare and development policy, Parliament has been doing more and more, according to Guggisberg. In contrast, agriculture and national defense have been neglected.

Guggisberg called for experiments to circumvent the debt brake to be avoided. In particular, he called for more spending discipline with regard to federal personnel costs and a disentanglement of federal and cantonal responsibilities.
