Viktor Rossi (GLP) is ahead in the race for the office of Federal Chancellor

Viktor Rossi of the GLP has come out on top in the first round of voting to succeed Walter Thurnherr (center) as Federal Chancellor. He received 98 out of 246 valid votes. He was followed by SVP candidate Gabriel Lüchinger with 78 votes and the independent Lukas Gresch (45).
Nathalie Goumaz (SVP) received 24 votes. SVP parliamentary group leader Thomas Aeschi subsequently withdrew Goumaz's candidacy. Theoretically, however, the names of all eligible candidates can be listed again in the second ballot.
Vice-Chancellor Rossi was around 25 votes short of an absolute majority in the first round of voting.
