Retour au fil d'actualité

The weather went crazy over Christmas: While it was over 22 degrees in Locarno TI, for example, there was record amounts of snow in the mountains, according to SRF Meteo.

For example, 22.3 degrees were measured in Locarno on December 23 - the highest temperature ever recorded there for the month of December, as SRF Meteo reported on Wednesday. December records were also measured in Stabio near Chiasso, in the Magadino plain and in Grono in the lower Misox. According to the weather service, new highs for December 24 were recorded at practically all stations on the southern side of the Alps on Christmas Eve.

North of the Alps, records for a December 25th fell on Christmas Day: according to SRF Meteo, maximum temperatures were measured in Bern, Payern VD, Koppigen BE, Lagnau in Emmental and Hallau SH.

Over 2.5 meters of snow near Leukerbad

In the mountains above 2300 meters above sea level, there was a record amount of snow in some places, according to SRF Meteo. On the Weissfluhjoch test field near Davos GR, 182 centimetres of snow were measured on St. Stephen's Day - the old record was 175 centimetres. At the Trudelboden snow measuring station above Leukerbad VS, there was even 254 centimetres of snow on Wednesday. The heavy precipitation since mid-October was responsible for the amount of snow.

However, according to the weather service, a white New Year's Eve should not be expected: The snow line will not drop below 1000 meters until the new year - with possible short-term exceptions.
