A collision between a car and a Sihltal-Zürich-Uetliberg-Bahn (SZU) train caused no injuries on Saturday, but major damage to property. Rail traffic between Adliswil ZH and Langnau-Gattikon ZH was interrupted for hours afterwards.

The 55-year-old driver of the passenger car was traveling from Langnau am Albis in the direction of Adliswil. On leaving Langnau am Albis, he became trapped between the barriers at a level crossing near the tennis center shortly after 4.30 p.m., said a spokesman for the Zurich cantonal police on Saturday evening at the request of the Keystone-SDA news agency.

Before the collision with the approaching train, however, the driver was able to leave his vehicle unharmed. The car was a total loss. According to the police, the train composition and the railroad infrastructure sustained material damage amounting to several 10,000 francs. The exact cause of the accident is still being investigated.

As a result, train services between Adliswil and Langnau-Gattikon were delayed and canceled for several hours. The fire department set up a detour. After 8 p.m., the trains ran according to schedule again.
