Swiss Asylum Trends: A Balancing Act Amidst Global Turmoil. Secretariat for Migration (SEM) forecast more of the same.
Predictions from SEM made on the issue have a margin of error of around 2000. While the applications have settled down during the winter months, SEM expects an uptick as we move from winter to spring.
The 28,000 – 30,000 asylum applications predicted for this coming year is almost identical to 2023 applications. However due to the escalating conflicts in Ukraine, West Africa and the middle east – these forecasts should be taken with a grain of salt. Extenuating circumstances globally will produce more dislocation and potentially higher application rates.
While the numbers are still pending for the end of 2023. Migration pressure is unlikely to decrease in the short to medium term. Accommodation for asylum seekers has been at its limit at times in recent months.
