The 8th Light Festival in Murten FR is just around the corner. From Wednesday, the town will be lit up in a special way in the evening from 6.00 pm to 10.00 pm with light shows, games and installations.
"In addition to artists from Switzerland, Germany, France, the Netherlands and Italy, guests from Poland and Ukraine are also expected for the first time," the organizers announced on Tuesday.
One of the highlights of this year's edition of the light festival will be the projection "Le Grand Mix à Morat" by French designer duo Inook, as the organizers promise.
For the primary school building in front of the Berntor outside the city wall, Inook have brought selected works of art from the Natural History Museum and the Art History Museum in Fribourg and are now bringing them to life on the façade of the school building. There is also a party atmosphere with contemporary world hits. The show lasts eight minutes and is repeated every time.
With the performance "Dance of Shadows", the organizers promise another highlight. This shadow play in the German Church in the Old Town is a mix of projection and live dance; it tells of happiness through the eyes of a young girl. Murten artist Adrian Scherzinger is collaborating with the Ukrainian dance group Verba Shadow to create the show.
The church spectacle was actually already planned for the Murten Light Festival 2023. However, after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the men in the dance troupe were no longer available and the women had to reorganize.
The 8th Light Festival in Murten takes place from January 17 to 28. 25 artists and 300 volunteers are involved. During the festival, 50,000 visitors are expected at the more than 20 Arteplages in and around Murten, which has a population of just under 10,000. Experience has shown that around half of them come from the cantons of Bern, Neuchâtel and Vaud.
