Retour au fil d'actualité
The eleven-year prison sentence for one of the participants in the robbery of a cash-in-transit near Lausanne in June 2019 is final. The Federal Supreme Court dismissed the Algerian's appeal.
In October 2022, the Vaud cantonal court convicted the 40-year-old of aggravated robbery, aggravated criminal damage to property, arson, violation of the Weapons Act and other offenses.
It ruled that the man had played an active role in the robbery and had been convicted in France for robbing a post office and then taking hostages. This is the result of a ruling by the Federal Supreme Court published on Friday.
The complainant suffered severe burns from a fire set by his accomplices to cover their tracks. He was driven to Spain and arrested in Alicante hospital in July 2019.
Alleged blanks
In his appeal, the convicted man complained that the Vaudois judiciary had not taken into account the fact that the Kalashnikovs used in the robbery were only loaded with blanks. However, the Federal Supreme Court agreed with the lower court on this and other points.
It seems inconceivable that the perpetrators would have acted so professionally but equipped themselves with unloaded weapons. The judges also emphasized that the robbers had endangered themselves with their weapons, as this could have led the security forces to shoot.
According to the Federal Supreme Court, the sentence of eleven years is not excessive in view of the means used and the unscrupulousness of the perpetrators. They had threatened to douse a courier with petrol and held a gun to his neck.
Several suspects were arrested in the Lyon region of France in 2020. They have to answer to the French judiciary. The loot of 20 to 25 million francs has not yet been found. (Judgment 7B_13/2023 of 19.10.2023)
