Around 2900 Swiss passengers were affected by the strike by security staff at German airports on Thursday. 490 of them at the Geneva destination, as the airline announced on Wednesday at the request of Keystone-SDA.

The strike will also have a major impact on Swiss' flight operations, the airline added. With a few exceptions, outbound flights to Berlin, Hamburg, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Hanover, Stuttgart and Bremen could be operated.

Return flights to Switzerland, on the other hand, would have to be operated without passengers, with the exception of two flights from Düsseldorf. Air traffic to Munich will continue unchanged.

Six flights have been canceled at Geneva Airport, according to an airport spokesperson. Three flights from Frankfurt and one flight from Düsseldorf are affected. Two other flights to Düsseldorf are also canceled.

Passengers affected by the strike will be proactively rebooked by Swiss for flights at a later date, but can also rebook independently. In addition, passengers can also request a cancellation free of charge.

The strike by the trade union Verdi will last from early Thursday morning until midnight and will take place at eleven airports. Employees in the aviation security sector who work in passenger control, passenger and goods control, cargo control and service areas have been called out on strike. The union wants to achieve higher wages.
