Holcim is making an acquisition in the green roof sector. The Swiss building materials manufacturer is acquiring Zinco, a "leading provider of advanced green roof systems" based in Germany with global subsidiaries in Europe, Asia and North and South America.
With its integrated green roof and solar systems, Zinco is expanding Holcim's approach to also sell specifications, according to a statement on Wednesday. By working with partners across the value chain, Zinco's solutions could "bring more nature into cities and improve urban well-being, from reducing heat island effects to improving air quality".
With this acquisition, Holcim is pursuing the goal of increasing the Solutions and Products division's share of Group sales to 30 percent by 2025 and penetrating the most attractive segments of the construction industry - from roofing systems to insulation and renovation.
Financial details of the takeover or details of the size of Zinco are not disclosed. According to its website, the company is based in Nürtingen, Baden-Württemberg. Its origins date back to 1957.
