In 2023, retailer Landi witnessed a 3.8% decrease in sales, amounting to 1.47 billion Swiss francs. This downturn is attributed to unfavorable spring weather conditions and a general trend of cautious consumer behavior, as announced by the company on Tuesday.

The backdrop of 2023 included widespread uncertainties, notably influenced by ongoing wars and inflationary pressures. Despite these hurdles, Landi partially recovered the dampened spring sales as the year progressed. Remarkably, the garden and plant product categories emerged as the strongest performers in terms of sales.

High demand was noted for soil, pest control, and plant-strengthening products throughout 2023. Continuing the trend from 2022, the pet food segment, specifically for dogs and cats, also experienced growth. Additionally, Landi’s beverage division, featuring the Farmer brand, saw an uptick in sales.

Conversely, the demand for wood pellets and other fuel types experienced a decline. This shift was partially credited to the warmer autumn season and a relaxation in the energy shortage crisis, leading customers to reduce their stockpiling activities.

Landi, known for specializing in home and garden products, operates a network of 270 stores across Switzerland. Despite the challenges faced in 2023, the company’s ability to find strength in specific segments underscores its resilience and adaptability in a fluctuating market landscape.
