Three A320 aircraft are currently grounded at Swiss due to engine problems. However, the airline will have to do without a total of eight of these aircraft in the coming months due to maintenance work, according to the Swiss air Head of Operations.

Last year, Swiss air experienced delays in flight operations due to problems with the Pratt & Whitney engines. Even then, Swiss air had to cancel up to eight aircraft in some cases. According to HOO, the downtime cost Swiss air a mid three-digit million amount.

The Swiss airline is holding talks with the engine manufacturer to finda solution said Buchhofer.

Wet Lease Flights Continue

In order to cope with the capacity bottlenecks, Swiss air continues to rely on so-called wet-lease flights, where passengers are transported by the Latvian Air Baltic and Helvetic Airways instead of Swiss, as Buchhofer said.
