On the fourth day of the strike at the Migros meat processing plant Micarna in Ecublens VD, a staff delegation met with the management. The latter confirmed that it has no mandate to negotiate. The labor dispute is directed against the planned closure of the site in spring 2025.

The employees will decide early Tuesday morning whether to continue their strike, as the trade union Unia announced on Monday evening. The employees' side assumed that Migros was blocking the strike, as Unia industry representative Noé Pelet said.

The union expected the wholesaler to take a stand. According to reports, hopes for an easing of the situation were dashed in the afternoon at a meeting with the site's management.

In order to resolve the conflict, the Migros employees had submitted various proposals for negotiations. The social plan proposed by the company is insufficient.

The Migros subsidiary Micarna announced the closure of the plant in Ecublens in mid-February with effect from spring 2025. Migros intends to concentrate meat processing at fewer locations, in particular at its headquarters in Courtepin FR. The Micarna Group employs 3050 people at 23 locations in Switzerland.
