Man seriously injures twelve-year-old in the head in Urdorf ZH

A twelve-year-old was attacked by a man in Urdorf ZH on Friday evening and seriously injured in the head. The victim was taken to hospital and the perpetrator arrested, as the cantonal police announced on Saturday. A second boy was unharmed.

The attack took place on Friday evening at around 5.30 p.m. on Steinackerstrasse. The 26-year-old Swiss man attacked one of the two 12-year-old children on the sidewalk and inflicted serious head injuries on one of them.

The attacker was held back by passers-by until the police arrived, according to the police. The suspected perpetrator and a 50-year-old police officer were slightly injured during the arrest. Both required medical treatment in hospital.

The background to the crime is the subject of ongoing investigations, it was reported on Saturday. According to initial police findings, the perpetrator was under the influence of narcotics. He is said not to have known the victim.
