Woman suffers smoke inhalation after fire in residential building in Ticino

A fire broke out in a residential building in Magliaso near Lugano on Wednesday. The woman in whose apartment the fire broke out suffered smoke inhalation. According to the Ticino cantonal police, a further eight people are being medically examined.
The fire broke out shortly after 1.30 p.m. in a house in Via Cantonale, according to the Ticino cantonal police. The cause of the fire is still unclear. However, initial investigations have revealed that the fire broke out in the living room of an apartment on the second floor.
The occupant of the affected apartment had suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to hospital by ambulance. A further eight people were in medical care and were being examined.
All residents of the house were evacuated as a precaution, the police added. The fire has now been extinguished.
The cantonal road in Magliaso was temporarily closed in the afternoon to facilitate the extinguishing work.
