A 39-year-old Norwegian had a fatal accident in the Verbier ski resort in Valais on Tuesday. He fell over a hundred meters down a rocky slope outside the marked pistes.

The accident occurred on Tuesday afternoon, as reported by the Valais cantonal police on Thursday.

According to the police, two snowboarders were skiing below the “Col des Gentianes” at an altitude of 2720 meters above sea level outside the marked pistes. For reasons as yet unexplained, one of the two fell and subsequently slid over a hundred meters down a rocky slope.

On the scene, the emergency services were only able to determine that the snowboarder had died. The victim was a 39-year-old Norwegian citizen residing in Norway.

The public prosecutor’s office has launched an investigation in cooperation with the cantonal police.
