The Winterthur municipal police and the Zurich cantonal police have concluded their major operation in Winterthur on Thursday. No dangerous objects were discovered during the search of a suspicious van.

The evacuated residents had to spend the morning in the Technorama science museum. The all-clear was finally given at half past eleven and the 150 or so people who had been evacuated were able to return to their homes.

The police had previously searched a parked, gray van with a bomb robot. No suspicious objects were found, as the cantonal police reported on Thursday afternoon. After the search, the van was driven to a nearby parking lot.

Call at 2 o'clock in the night

The large-scale operation was triggered by a threat that the police received by telephone at 2 a.m. on Thursday night. The police have not yet provided any further details about the threat. The identity of the caller is not known and is the subject of an ongoing investigation.

The evacuated houses belong to the Guggenbühl district in Oberwinterthur, not far from Oberwinterthur railroad station.
