The Swiss National Museum set a new public attendance record in 2023 with 379,616 visitors. This means that the museum network has completely overcome the effects of the coronavirus pandemic in the year of the 125th anniversary of the National Museum in Zurich.
Admission figures have resumed the upward trend of 2019, the Swiss National Museum wrote in its 2023 annual report, which was published on Thursday. Before the Covid-19 pandemic, in 2019, 372,038 people visited one of the four museums organized under the umbrella of the National Museum. During the Covid-19 pandemic, admission figures fell to 192,817 visitors in 2020.
The National Museum did not set a record in terms of the number of guided tours and events last year, according to the statement. In 2023, 4104 guided tours and 83 events were held. In 2022, there were a few more, with 4173 guided tours and 104 events.
The Swiss National Museum includes the National Museum Zurich, the Chateau de Prangins in the canton of Vaud, the Forum of Swiss History Schwyz and the Collection Center in Affoltern am Albis ZH. In addition to the National Museum, the Chateau de Prangins also celebrated a milestone last year with its 25th anniversary.
