Taylor Swift's music can once again be heard on Tiktok. This is despite a dispute between the short video platform and the music company Universal Music.

Although Swift is under contract with Universal, she has the rights to her songs. Her tracks disappeared from Tiktok along with music by other Universal Music artists after the two companies were unable to reach a new agreement in January of this year.

Universal Music argued at the time that TikTok had only offered musicians and songwriters "a fraction" of the usual remuneration on similar other online platforms. TikTok countered that Universal had "put its own greed above the interests of its artists and songwriters".

The return of some of Swift's songs on Thursday had already been in preparation for some time, wrote the "Financial Times", citing informed persons.

Tiktok has become an important platform for the music industry in recent years because many users discover new songs there. As of February 2024, Tiktok has around 2.2 million users in Switzerland every month, according to the company's figures. Around 1.6 billion people worldwide use the app.
