Official representatives of Switzerland have expressed their sympathy for the victims and their families following the fatal knife attack in a shopping center in the Australian metropolis of Sydney. "We are deeply saddened by today's events in Sydney Bondi Junction", the Swiss embassy in Canberra announced on Saturday.

The thoughts of the victims and their families are with them, according to the statement published on Platform X.

An attacker armed with a knife killed six people and injured several others in the shopping center. The man apparently stabbed visitors at random in the busy Westfield Bondi Junction complex in the east of the city in the afternoon before being shot dead by a policewoman. The perpetrator was known to the police. They ruled out a terrorist background. The perpetrator had acted alone.
