Price pressure for companies in Switzerland decreased again in March. This is the eleventh month in a row in which annual inflation based on producer and import prices was negative. Compared to March 2023, the price level fell by 2.1%.

For once, there was no difference in the development between producer and import prices. Both rose slightly by 0.1% compared to the previous month.

In a year-on-year comparison, however, import prices in particular have become significantly cheaper with a drop of 5.4%, while producer prices have only fallen by 0.5%.

The increases in the producer price index compared to the previous month was primarily due to higher prices for petroleum products. Mineral oil products also had an impact on the import price index compared to February.

On the other hand, crude oil and natural gas as well as pharmaceutical specialties became cheaper. It looks as though Switzerland is finding it’s way out of the inflation problem that has been lingering for some time.
