26-year-old must serve nine years in prison for knife attack

On Tuesday, the Zurich District Court sentenced a 26-year-old Swiss man to nine years' imprisonment for attempted intentional homicide. He was also sentenced for spreading racist messages on the internet.
In June 2020, the convicted man seriously injured an 18-year-old Swiss man with a knife during an argument near a shopping center in Zurich. At the trial last Friday, the defendant demanded an acquittal because he had acted in self-defense.
The knife attack was preceded by an argument about the T-shirt the perpetrator was wearing. The later victim criticized the inscription "White Lives Matter" on the T-shirt as racist. After a scuffle, the accused stabbed him.
The ruling is not yet legally binding. It can be appealed to the Zurich High Court.
