AfD’s lowest poll rating in Germany for a year

The right-wing populist AfD fell by one percentage point in a Forsa survey in Germany, achieving its worst result since April 2023 with 15%.
Since December, the AfD has lost around a third of its supporters, either to other parties or to the camp of non-voters, according to the RTL/ntv trend barometer published on Tuesday.
The CDU/CSU, led by opposition leader Friedrich Merz, has reached 31% in the so-called Sunday poll of 2000 respondents (up 1 percentage point since the previous week). Chancellor Olaf Scholz's SPD slipped to 16% (minus 1). The Greens remain unchanged at 12 percent, the Left at 3 percent and the Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW) alliance at 4 percent. The FDP increased slightly to 6% (plus 1). The other parties reach 13%.
Election polls are generally fraught with uncertainty. Among other things, declining party loyalty and increasingly short-term election decisions make it difficult for opinion research institutes to weight the data collected. In principle, polls only reflect the opinion at the time of the survey and are not a forecast of the election outcome.
Scholz governs at the head of a "traffic light" coalition of SPD, FDP and Greens, which would have no chance in the next election according to these polls. The next real test of strength at national level is the election to the EU Parliament on June 9.
