A 12-year-old suffers severe injuries during a chaotic cash drop event in Zurich, sparking a police investigation and community concern.
A 12-year-old boy has suffered serious injuries while dropping cash from a drone over a crowd in a park in Zurich. The boy was injured with a sharp object, the Zurich cantonal police reported on Sunday.
The circumstances were initially unclear. According to the police, the incident occurred on Saturday evening on the Blatter and China meadows as part of an unauthorised action. A private organiser had let a drone with a money bag fly over the park shortly before 8.00 pm.
According to media reports, a tiktoker dropped a total of 24,000 francs in tens of notes on the people. Screaming people could be heard in a video. A man wearing a gold mask and holding a megaphone called on people to “stay peaceful”.
According to the police, the people gathered under the drone tried to pick up as many banknotes as possible. The boy was then injured during the crush. The victim is a Dominican.
An ambulance took the teenager to hospital. The police launched an investigation into the circumstances. They were looking for witnesses.
