In all cantons, postal services for cash payments are available to at least 95.8 percent of the population within 20 minutes. According to the Federal Office of Communications, Swiss Post therefore also fulfilled its universal service obligation in 2023.

On average across the country, 98.1 percent of the population can reach postal services for cash payments within a maximum of 20 minutes on foot or by public transport, the Federal Office of Communications (OFCOM) announced on Thursday. Depending on the canton, the figure is between 95.8 and 100 percent. The statutory threshold value is 90 percent.

Despite an increase of 0.4 percentage points compared to the previous year, Valais still has the lowest accessibility score. In the canton of Basel-Stadt, the figure has been at 100% since 2019.

Swiss Post customers are increasingly making their payments electronically: According to Bakom, 98.5 percent of all transfers are now made digitally. At the same time, the decline in payments made in cash has accelerated compared to the previous year (-18.9 percent compared to -16.8 percent in 2022).

In 2023, Swiss Post had a total of 4963 postal access points - 65 more than in the previous year. Four fewer post offices and 17 fewer agencies were operated. The home delivery service was offered in 17 additional areas. The network of MyPost24 terminals and other acceptance and collection points was expanded by 69.
