SVP parliamentary group leader Thomas Aeschi has had a scuffle with armed police officers in the Federal Palace. He is said to have defied an order from the security guards during a photo opportunity with the Ukrainian speaker of parliament, Ruslan Stefanchuk.

The online portal Nau.ch captured the scene in a video. Aeschi wrote on the X portal: "As you can see on the video, I didn't let anyone stop me. The point is that during the session, parliamentary work takes precedence over foreign state visits."

The video from Nau.ch shows Aeschi defending himself against two armed federal police officers who are trying to force him off the stairs in the foyer of the Federal Palace.

Ahead of the start of the Ukraine peace conference on the Bürgenstock in Nidwalden next weekend, the highest level of security is also in place in the Federal Palace, especially during the visit of Ukrainian Parliament President Stefanchuk to National Council President Eric Nussbaumer. Both were also in the foyer of the Federal Palace during the incident with Aeschi.
