FDP President Thierry Burkart has spoken out in favor of a long-term relationship between Switzerland and the European Union. "We are dependent on it", he said. Switzerland trades with the whole world. Europe plays a central role in this.

"Switzerland is dependent on a good, stable and long-term relationship with the European Union," said the Councillor of States from Aargau in his speech at the delegates' meeting on Saturday in Möriken AG.

The FDP has always been unequivocally in favor of the bilateral approach. This path is a path to success for Switzerland. It must be continued. However, the FDP does not want full recognition of the EU Citizenship Directives.

"Pro-Putin-Initiative"

Burkart took a stand against the Pro Switzerland neutrality initiative from the SVP. He stated that the demand would lead to a restriction of foreign policy.

Switzerland should not harm itself in foreign policy, he said. He spoke of a "pro-Putin initiative". Switzerland does not need "more isolation".
