In Sierre in Valais, some buildings are no longer habitable after the storms. 141 people can no longer return to their homes. The municipality has set up an aid network.

"These are buildings from the 20th century with foundations made of crumbling bricks and mortar," said Mayor Pierre Berthod to the media on Friday. Other structures had suffered direct damage from material and tree trunks that were swept away by the Rhone.

The city had to order a measure to remove people from the danger zone and prohibit access to the buildings, according to the statement. People who want to retrieve personal belongings must do so under the protection of community service workers. From Saturday, the affected residents will be accompanied by social workers.
