A hiker suffered fatal injuries in a fall from a height on the east ridge of the Pointe du Midi in Valais on Tuesday. The 57-year-old Swiss man fell around 30 meters, as reported by the Valais cantonal police on Thursday.
The man's remains were found shortly before 10 a.m. on Wednesday, according to reports. The rescue team was only able to determine his death.
The man and his partner had been on their way from the Hütte des Grands towards the Vallon des Grands Dessus at around 1 pm on Tuesday. At the height of the "Vers la Goille" lake, at an altitude of around 2430 meters, he decided to climb alone towards the Pointe du Midi - a mountain on the border with France. When his partner did not see him return, she alerted the rescue services at around 5.30 pm.
