There were several thunderstorms in Switzerland on Monday evening. Locally, more than 50 millimetres of rain fell and in Spiez in the canton of Bern there were hailstones up to three centimetres in size.

Gusts of up to 100 kilometers per hour were measured in the Jura municipality of Fahy, as the Federal Office of Meteorology and Climatology MeteoSwiss reported on X on Tuesday.

Due to heavy thunderstorms in the region, rail traffic between Basel and Strasbourg was temporarily suspended on Monday evening. Trains were canceled and there were delays. MeteoSwiss had declared the danger level "high". Trains were back on schedule from 23:27.

On Tuesday, the showers should subside in the north, the weather service wrote. There will be new thunderstorms in the Alps and in the south in the afternoon.
