Gastronomy in Ticino is suffering. According to the umbrella organization GastroTicino, sales in the Bellinzona region and the valleys have plummeted by 20 to 50 percent in the last six months. Tourists are virtually non-existent in the restaurants of the Mendrisiotto.
The regional and cantonal representatives want to examine how the entire economy can best be brought to an "anti-crisis table", as GastroTicino announced on Wednesday. The aim is to bring together the various problems before they are brought before the authorities in order to take measures that will guarantee thousands of families "a dignified future".
The heavy rainfall in recent months has slowed down the influx of tourists and excursions in Ticino. As has the closure of the Gotthard railroad line.
