The trial against a young man for the alleged murder of his father in Lampenberg BL began on Thursday. The accused told the criminal court in Muttenz that he had suffered from paranoia before the crime.

He did not seek treatment at the time. Thanks to the therapy in the psychiatric clinic, he is feeling better again, said the 25-year-old.

The psychiatrist who had written an expert report on him diagnosed him with an "acute delusional syndrome". He had not been violent before the offense and had not noticed the "altered perception of reality". It was still unclear whether he had a behavioral disorder that was exacerbated by his previous daily cannabis consumption or whether it was a schizophrenic disorder.

According to the indictment, the accused allegedly shot his father at home in December 2021 after an argument.
