The Zurich prison authorities have applied for the subsequent detention of a 25-year-old Kosovan woman. At the hearing before the Bülach District Court on Tuesday, the authorities made a surprising U-turn.

"Custody would be the worst thing for me," the woman said in court on Tuesday morning. She is making good progress with her therapy in the clinic where she has been since October 2023.

This progress is also recognized by the juvenile prosecutor's office responsible for the case. Their representative requested that the application for custody be rejected and the inpatient therapy be extended.

As a 17-year-old, the woman tried to strangle a 12-year-old in a psychiatric clinic in Basel in 2017. In 2018, she attacked another patient at the clinic in Rheinau ZH.

The Bülach District Court and later the Zurich High Court convicted her of attempted murder and attempted intentional homicide. The prison sentence of nine years was postponed in favor of inpatient therapy.
