The Zug-based Landis & Gyr Foundation has awarded its annual recognition prize to the Alpentöne international music festival in Altdorf. The award is endowed with 50,000 Swiss francs.

Alpentöne has been honoring music from the Alpine region for 25 years, as the foundation announced on Tuesday. Since then, it has dared to build an experimental musical bridge between yesterday and today. Thanks to its "joy of experimentation", the festival attracts a diverse audience from Switzerland and abroad.

The festival has been held every two years since it was founded in 1999. Each edition features ensembles with a total of around 150 musicians from all countries of the Alpine arc, according to a statement. For example, from the foothills of the Bavarian Alps, the Lombardy Alps, Piedmont and Marseille.

On October 28, 2024, the festival in Altdorf will celebrate its 25th anniversary. The 14th edition of the festival will take place from August 14 to 17, 2025 under the motto "Languages and Voices".

The Landis & Gyr Recognition Prize has been awarded to Swiss cultural institutions and initiatives, festivals and independent ensembles since 2020.
