Fighter against racism and anti-Semitism died 20 years ago

Today, Thursday, marked the 20th anniversary of the death of Sigi Feigel, a fighter against racism and anti-Semitism. The Foundation against Racism and Anti-Semitism (GRA) paid tribute to his work with a memorial service in Zurich-Enge.
Various people remembered "a man who always stood up for the good cause with charm and determination", the foundation announced. He worked tirelessly on behalf of minorities.
Sigi Feigel was born in Zurich in 1921. He was the son of Russian-Jewish immigrants and a lawyer. Feigel founded the Education for Tolerance Foundation (SET), the Society for Minorities in Switzerland (GMS), the GRA and the Youth Housing Network (Juwo), among others.
According to the GRA, he reformed the structures of the Zurich Jewish community as its president for many years and later became involved in the Swiss Federation of Jewish Communities. According to the press release, his commitment contributed significantly to the introduction of the criminal law on racism.
Feigel died at the age of 83 - after a long illness. Until a few days before his death, Feigel was still fully conscious and fought for his ideals.
