In future, anyone buying or building a new home will have more time to report construction defects. The Councils have largely agreed on a revision of the law on sales and work contracts. On Thursday, the National Council followed the path of the Federal Council and the Council of States.
Following divergent wishes in the consultation process, the government submitted a "compromise proposal that was acceptable to the majority", as it wrote in October 2022. The Federal Council wants to extend the deadline for complaints. It now envisages a deadline of sixty days for contracts for work and contracts for the sale of land.
The Council of States confirmed this proposal in principle during the summer session. In contrast to its first deliberation and contrary to the majority opinion of its Legal Affairs Committee (RK-N), the National Council is now also in agreement.
This leaves only minor differences between the Councils. For example, the National Council enshrined in the law that the agreement of shorter deadlines should be invalid. The Council of States still has to confirm this.
