In future, every person in Switzerland should submit their own tax return and pay their own taxes, regardless of their marital status. In the National Council, the SP, FDP, Greens and GLP are in favor of this paradigm shift. The SVP and the Center Party reject it.

On Monday, the Grand Chamber took up the debate on the FDP Women's Tax Fairness Initiative and a draft law on individual taxation. Both are aimed at individual taxation regardless of marital status.

The Federal Council wants to achieve its goal more quickly with the statutory provisions than with the constitutional article. The decision in the Council to accept the counter-proposal is likely to be close. Meanwhile, the majority of the responsible committee recalled that Parliament had issued the mandate for this.

The Council will decide in the evening whether to approve the law on individual taxation. Over the next few hours, more than sixty individual speakers will present their views on individual taxation.
